Sri Lanka Facing Worst Economic Crisis
Sri Lanka is facing its worst economic crisis in decades, which has been the top trending news in India for a long time now. The population of 22 million is suffering from a lack of food availability, fuel, and other essential items. And the available items are so much higher in price than a common man cannot afford.
As a result, there were intense protests active for weeks, the severe conditions forced President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to resign last week. Mr Rajapaksa and the family members who were in the Government were accused of not effectively managing the country's economy which led to today’s conditions.
As per the Analysts, “the frontrunner in the three-way contest is Ranil Wickremesinghe, a six-time former prime minister who became acting president after his predecessor resigned, but is despised by the protesters who see him as a Rajapaksa ally.”
