Regularly, drugs worth billions are being seized in the state. This is a matter of great concern. In the land of Bapu and Sardar Patel, who are these people indulging in such illegal trade? Who are those in power, shielding these mafia members?”

Manufacturing and sale of liquor are banned in Gujarat and it is a “dry state”. As per the Gujarat Prohibition Act, police can arrest a person for purchasing, consuming, or serving alcohol without a permit with a punishment from three months to five years in prison. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also questioned the state government after this incident.

"It is very sad to know that more than 23 people have died and over 40 are admitted in hospital after consuming spurious liquor. I offer condolences to those who have died and will visit Bhavnagar hospital today," Kejriwal tweeted. A joint team of police, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), and the Ahmedabad Crime Branch are investigating the case.

 

The residents of Rojid village in Barvala taluka of Botad district and nearby villages were admitted to the hospital due to poor health conditions on July 25, 2022. The matter came to light after the number of deaths increased.
